Task Force Responds to Damaging Executive Orders from Trump White House

Monday, February 10, 2025

Washington, D.C. — In response to the litany of unlawful and unconstitutional directives issued by the Trump Administration, the recently formed Litigation Working Group and Rapid Response Task Force moved to respond to these actions in the Congress, introducing both the Data Taxpayer Protection Act and the Department of Education Protection Act.

House Democrats remain committed to using every tool available to push back against far-right extremism that is harming the American people and to protecting vulnerable communities from the disastrous impacts of the current administration’s executive orders and agency actions. As noted, the following initiatives prepared in response to the same are:

The Data Taxpayer Protection Act, which prohibits unlawful access to American taxpayers’ sensitive financial information, ensuring that confidential records are safeguarded and accessible only to fully vetted career civil servants.

The Department of Education Protection Act prohibits the use of appropriated funds to be used to decentralize, reduce the staffing level of, or alter the responsibilities, structure, authority, or functionality of the Department of Education.
